Using Kind Words Social Story Unit | We Use Kind Words is a hands-on social skills resource for preschool, Pre-K, kindergarten, special education, autism classrooms, speech therapy, and social emotional learning. This interactive unit helps students learn that mean words are not okay and teaches them how to use kind words, respectful language, and positive communication in everyday school interactions.
This printable set includes 1 interactive adapted book, 20 task cards for practice and review, 16 full-color visuals/posters, and a black-and-white reflection sheet for discussing behavior and making better choices. It works especially well in small groups, social skills lessons, calm-down areas, counseling settings, and independent workstations where students need support with kindness, self-regulation, and social communication.
This unit works well as a small group activity and especially with social skills groups because the activities are designed to foster conversations about using kind words at school instead of using words in hurtful ways.
The adapted book provides a fun and interactive way for students of all abilities to participate in learning ways to use kind words.

After the teacher or therapist has read the book with students, students can complete the task cards and discuss them as a group.
