Product Description

These Build a Fish Tank Center Activities turn a hands-on building task into powerful practice for visual discrimination, following directions, replicating a model, and sight word recognition. Students build a fish tank using 3 differentiated levels of model cards (picture-only, picture + word, or word-only). Set it up as a cookie sheet activity, magnet center, or cut-and-glue craft.

🐠 Perfect for:

  • Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) targeting following directions, attributes, vocabulary, and ocean/summer vocabulary goals
  • Special Education teachers building summer, ocean, and end-of-year centers
  • Autism classrooms needing structured, multi-level visual building tasks
  • Occupational Therapists working on visual discrimination, fine motor skills, and scissor skills
  • ABA therapists running match-the-model and replication programs
  • Early Childhood, Pre-K, and Kindergarten teachers
  • Extended School Year (ESY) summer programs
  • Homeschool families with multi-age learners

🌊 What's Included:

  • 1 Background fish tank mat
  • 3 sets of 16 model cards (48 model cards total) across 3 differentiated levels:
    • Level 1: Picture-only cards
    • Level 2: Picture + Word cards
    • Level 3: Word-only cards

  • A large set of "build a fish tank" building pieces (in full color)
  • Open-ended creative building pieces for free play
  • 3 setup options — cookie sheet (with magnets), magnet center, or cut-and-glue craft

🎯 Skills Targeted:

Visual discrimination, replicating a model, following directions, ocean and fish tank vocabulary, attribute identification (color, size, shape, type), same and different, sight word recognition (Level 3), fine motor skills, scissor skills, and open-ended creativity.

How to Use:

Print, laminate, and add magnets to the pieces for a cookie sheet or magnet center. Students choose a model card and replicate the fish tank on their background mat. To increase difficulty, give students a larger field of pieces or move them up to the next card level. To decrease difficulty, limit the field to just the needed pieces. Or set it up as a cut-and-glue craft for a take-home keepsake.

🐡 Ways to Use:

  • Cookie sheet activities and magnet centers
  • Independent work systems (TEACCH)
  • Ocean, summer, beach, and aquarium thematic units
  • Speech therapy following-directions drills ("Build a fish tank with two orange fish and one blue plant.")
  • ABA discrete trial replication tasks
  • OT visual scanning and fine motor sessions
  • Morning tubs and early finisher activities
  • Extended School Year (ESY) summer sessions
  • Cut-and-glue craft for whole-class summer or end-of-year parties
