Product Description

Bring Steve Metzker's We're Going On a Leaf Hunt, an adaptation of the beloved classic We're Going On a Bear Hunt to life with this engaging set of visuals, props, and story-retelling tools—perfect for Pre-K, ECSE, and early childhood classrooms! Students just LOVE these books! My students loved the props and visuals for We're Going On A Bear Hunt so much, that I knew I had to create more! If you read your book with rhythm, get silly with the sound effects and create movements to go with each sound effect, they will ask for this book over and over again!

This set does not include the book. (You must purchase your own copy.) This resource includes:

  • Small page-by-page visuals for each part of the story to cue students during read-alouds.
  • Student props to hold up and use for sound effects as the story unfolds—perfect for active participation!
  • Story-retelling visuals that can be attached to a whiteboard, cookie sheet (magnetic strips), Velcro wall, or felt board for sequencing and comprehension activities.

  • An icon for your choice board, so that your students can request this one over and over again!

How it works:
As you read the story aloud, students watch for their visual cue, then hold up the matching prop and make the sound effect (swishy-swashy grass, splashy river, squelchy mud, etc.). After reading, use the retelling visuals to help students recall and sequence the events, building narrative skills in a hands-on way.

What the benefits are for your students:

  • Multi-sensory learning: Combines visual, auditory, and kinesthetic input to support comprehension and engagement. Students can practice imitation skills, gross motor skills and have a brain break!
  • Language development: Builds vocabulary, story sequencing, and retelling skills. They pick up on the repetition of this book quickly!
  • Participation for all learners: Encourages active engagement, even for students with limited verbal skills.
  • Fine & gross motor practice: Holding props, attaching visuals, and moving to sound effects support motor development.
  • Social-emotional engagement: Creates a shared group experience that builds confidence and classroom community.

Whether you’re targeting story comprehension, story sequencing, language skills, or just taking a brain break, this interactive set turns We’re Going On a Leaf Hunt into a class favorite! :)
