Groundhog Day Freebie

This Groundhog Day Freebie includes a super-cute cookie sheet story and writing activity. In this activity, the teacher or therapist reads an original Groundhog's Day poem to a small group of students and manipulates the story pieces on a cookie sheet as he/she reads. At the end of the story, the teacher can use the story pieces to incorporate into comprehension questions. After the Groundhog's Day poem, students can complete the included writing activity, where they write and or draw a prediction about what the Groundhog will do this Groundhog's Day. Students working independently may read the poem out loud and complete the writing activity in a literacy center. Sample Text: "Groundhog, Groundhog, in your hole-- Come out and see the day! It's time to see if winter's gone, And spring is on the way!"
