This St. Patrick's Day Adapted Book, "That's Not the Hat," is perfect for students who need practice with adjectives, -wh questions, and sequencing story events.
In this adapted book, Lucy wants to find the perfect hat to wear to a St. Patrick's Day party, but most of the hats she tries on are a little to "this" or a little too "that."
Sample text:
It was St. Patrick's Day and Lucy wanted to find the perfect hat to wear to the party.
First she tried on the striped hat. "That's NOT the hat," said Lucy.
"That hat is too pointy."
Next she tried on the blue hat. "That's NOT the hat," said Lucy.
"That hat is too fuzzy."
With this adapted book, a teacher or therapist reads to students, as they follow along and match the correct hat and descriptive word to each page. At the end of the story, there are wh- questions that students will answer by matching the correct answer piece to each page. Students working independently can work through the book in a literacy center or work station.
There are also extension activities included. These include a sequencing mat to sequence the events of the story, an open ended activity where students create their own "that's not the hat," descriptions, and a words to pictures matching activity that focuses on the adjectives in the book.
I think your students are going to have so much fun with this story! ;)
