This Thanksgiving Counting Adapted Book And Activities, "Ten On The Hay" is a seasonal spin on the classic nursery rhyme, "Ten In The Bed." This adapted book and activities set focuses on counting and identifying numbers and number words.

In this activity, the teacher or therapist reads the story to a small group of students, as students follow counting the turkeys on the hay and matching a number and number word to each page.

Students working at an independent level may read through the Thanksgiving themed book in a math or literacy center or an independent work station. There are several extension activities included for extra practice. (Please see photos and video for details.)

"Near a big, red, barn,

'neath a clear blue sky,

there was ONE on the hay...

then more piled high!

THERE WERE TEN ON THE HAY!

There were TEN on the hay,

it was Thanksgiving day.

"Get running! He's coming!"

So they plotted and they planned

and ONE ran away.

There were NINE on the hay,

it was Thanksgiving day.

"Get running! He's coming!"
