In this activity, the teacher or therapist reads the story to a small group of students, as students follow counting the butterflies and matching a number and number word to each page. Students will also "catch" a "fish" (shark) on each page and put it "in the jar," with a net that is attached to the book, or even a net that you provide.
Students working at an independent level may read through the spring themed adapted book in a math or literacy center or independent work station. There are several extension activities included for extra practice. (Please see photos and video for details.)
Sample Text:
"Ten little fish were swimming slowly by.
Nine swam low, and one swam high.
Down went the fish but it didn't get far.
Up came the net, and we put in the jar.
"Nine little fish were swimming slowly by.
Eight swam low, and one swam high.
Down went the fish but it didn't get far.
Up came the net, and we put in the jar.
