Building Sentences
This Building Sentences Adapted Book, "What Do We See At the Zoo?" is a zoo themed book that focuses on building simple sentences, zoo animals, and the "Wh-" question word "What."
This download includes:
1 Adapted Book (w/Real Photos)
1 Set of Sentence Building Strips
1 Cut/Glue Sentence Activity
In this activity look at a photograph and build a simple sentence by answering the question, "What Do We See At the Zoo?"
The teacher or therapist reads each page, and students solve the riddle and complete the sentence by choosing the correct noun (farm animal) that answers the riddle.
Sample Text:
"What do we see at the zoo?
We see a ________ (hippo) . Yes, it's true!
Sentence Builder: "We see a hippo at the zoo.."
After the teacher or therapist has worked through the adapted book, students can practice building sentences with the sentence builder strips. These strips are adapted for multiple learning levels depending on how you set them up. Students can choose 1 word to complete each sentence (Level 1), two words to complete each sentence (Level 2), or build a the complete sentence (Level 3).
After they have practiced with both the adapted book and sentence builder strips, students can complete the cut/glue worksheet.
Students working at an independent level, can read and work through the book and sentence builder strips at a literacy center or work station.
If your students enjoy adapted books, there are many more in my collection. Please see my Adapted Books Collection below.
