These Inferencing Stories include two adapted books that provide students with lots of fun and hands-on practice for working on basic inferencing skills. It also includes 1 Bonus Inferencing Game that students can play after they are done with the book.
"My Monster Is Not Scary," and "Monster Eats A Bunch," are engaging and interactive adapted books that focus on making inferences.
In the first book, "My Monster Is Not Scary," Wendy is too scared to go trick or treating because of all of the monsters that may be out on Halloween.
Sample text:
"It was time to trick or treat. But Wendy was afraid to go out because of all of the monsters. "Monsters are so scary," Wendy said.
My monster is not scary said Lucy. He's got a blue head, wears a green shirt, and is as cuddly as a bunny rabbit.
My monster is not scary, said Patty. He's got a yellow head, wears a pink shirt, and is as cute as a kitty cat."
In these activities, the teacher reads the books to students as students follow along, listen to clues and find the monster that goes with each person. At the end of the book, students can sequence the monsters in the order that they appeared in the story. You can add a sensory bin component for added engagement. (See Preview Video and Photos for Ideas!)
The second book, "Monster Eats A Bunch" is also an making inferences book. Students can follow along as the teacher reads clues about what to feed the monster.
Sample Text:
"Chomp. Smack. Gobble. Crunch.
Monster says, "Time for Lunch."
Feed Monster something that has a cone, two scoops and is very, very, cold.
Burp-Slurp! Slobber. Munch.
Monster eats and eats a bunch!
Feed Monster something that has a crust, eyeball filling, and is eaten by the slice"
You can also add a sensory bin component to this book for added engagement!
After the students have worked through both games, there is *bonus inferencing game included called, "I Know A Monster...."
Students listen to clues and find the monster that fits that description.
