This Community Helpers Adapted Book, "Community Helpers, Who Am I?" focuses on the -Wh Question word, "Who," and teaches students about the people we meet in the community. This book focuses on community helpers themed vocabulary and basic comprehension skills by having students answer the basic question, "Who?"
In this activity, a teacher or therapist reads the story, as students follow along and answer the riddle on each page, by choosing the correct interactive matching piece.
Sample Text:
"I am the person who
loves to bake.
I'll bake you some breads,
or cookies or cake!
Who am I? (turn page)
I am the baker. I bake lots of yummy treats and sell them to people in the community."
After the story, you can expand the activity by using the question cards provided. These question cards focus on different types of "Who" questions, and are differentiated for multiple learning levels. Students answer the questions by choosing the correct matching pieces provided.
Students working at an independent level can read and work through the book at a literacy center or independent work station.
