These Inferencing Stories include two adapted books that provide students with lots of fun and hands-on practice for working on basic inferencing skills. It also includes 1 Bonus Inferencing Game that students can play after they are done with the book.
"My Turkey Is Not Worried," and "Turkey Eats A Bunch," are engaging and interactive adapted books that focus on making inferences.
In the first book, "My Turkey Is Not Worried," Thanksgiving is coming and Tom has an announcement to make.
Sample text:
"It was almost Thanksgiving and lots of the turkeys were worried about becoming Thanksgiving dinner. "Thanksgiving is coming," Tom warned. "Mrs. Brown is already preparing the menu.
"My turkey is not worried," said Lucy. "He's spotty and red and disguised as an insect."
"My turkey is not worried," said Hank. "He's covered in white and disguised as something spooky."
In these activities, the teacher reads the books to students as students follow along, listen to clues and find the turkey that goes with each person. At the end of the book, students can sequence the turkeys in the order that they appeared in the story. You can add a sensory bin component for added engagement. (See Preview Video and Photos for Ideas!)
The second book, "Turkey Eats A Bunch" is also an making inferences book. Students can follow along as the teacher reads clues about what to feed the turkey.
Sample Text:
"Peck. Gobble-Gobble. Crunch.
Turkey says, "Time for Lunch."
Feed Turkey something that is green, leafy and sitting in a purple bowl.
Gobble-Gobble-Wobble Munch.
Turkey eats and eats a bunch!
Feed Turkey something that is creamy, white and has lots and lots of butter."
You can also add a sensory bin component to this book for added engagement!
After the students have worked through both games, there is *bonus inferencing game included called, "Find The Food..."
Students listen to clues and find the food that fits that description.
