The "Monsters at School" Adapted Book is a fun book to use during the beginning of the school year as a back to school activity, or during October as a Halloween activity.
This adapted book focuses on numbers (or counting) and colors. It specifically focuses on the numbers 1-5, and the colors: red, blue, orange, yellow and green.
In this activity, the teacher or therapist reads the story to a small group of students as students follow along, and place the correct number of monsters on each page. They most also answer the questions: "How Many Monsters?" and "What Color?"
Sample Text:
"On the first day of school, I walked through the door,
And one little monster did a cartwheel on the floor.
(Turn Page)
Oh Wow! That was so cool! I saw one, red monster at school!
(Turn Page)
I walked to the classroom and looked for my chair,
And two little monsters were hanging out there.
(Turn Page)
Oh Wow! That was so cool! I saw, two green monsters at school!
This book also includes two levels of matching: Level I focuses on numeric numbers and colored dots. Level two focuses on number words and color words.
Students working at an independent level can work through the book at a literacy center or workstation.
